Background
I’m an entrepreneur, businessman, investor, rancher and Navy veteran. I founded Nature Nate’s Honey Co. and grew it from a single bee hive into the #1 honey company in America. Today, I lead Honey Rock Group, our family investment company, and our ranching operations include stocker cattle and cutting horses. Earlier in my career, I spent more than a decade in Christian ministry and global missions, helping launch initiatives including the EvangeCube and I Am Second. I earned a B.B.A. in Marketing from Southwest Texas State University, now Texas State University, and served six years in the U.S. Navy Reserves. My wife, Patty, and I have been married for 30 years, and we have four children and a daughter-in-law.
Why I am running
Texas agriculture and the health of Texans are deeply connected. We’re losing farms, producers are being squeezed by rising costs and shrinking margins, and chronic disease is taking a growing toll on our families. I’m running to strengthen Texas farmers and ranchers, improve the food we put on our tables, and bring a businessman’s focus on results, accountability and innovation to the Texas Department of Agriculture.
Top priorities
- Texans should feed Texans: We must use Texas purchasing power to connect schools and other institutions with Texas farmers, ranchers and food producers, keeping more economic opportunity here at home, while providing children and families with healthy local food.
- Texas First: Fight unnecessary regulations, protect private property rights, strengthen water infrastructure, expand processing capacity, address biosecurity threats, and help farmers and ranchers reach dependable markets so the next generation can build a future in agriculture.
- MAHA: Increase transparency, promote fresh and minimally processed foods, and use the Department of Agriculture’s programs, including school lunches, to improve nutrition and help build a healthier generation of Texans.
