Background

I grew up working on my family's ranch in Lampasas, where I learned agriculture firsthand, raising cattle, goats, sheep, and pigs. I earned my bachelor's degree from Southwestern University, where I studied international politics and trade, and later studied Mandarin at National Chengchi University in Taiwan. I've worked as a water and agriculture researcher for the National Science Foundation, a teacher, a ranch hand, and in international trade policy. Today, I continue working on my family's ranch and serve as Secretary of the Texas Farmers Union. I'm also a founding board member of Killeen Creators, a community garden organization. My experience has taken me from the pasture to public policy, and I've spent years organizing and advocating for farmers, ranchers, working families, and rural communities across Texas.

Why I am running

I'm running because Texas government should work for everyday Texans, not the powerful few. Family farmers are disappearing, grocery prices keep climbing, and our land and water are increasingly threatened by powerful corporate interests. I've spent my life around agriculture and years advocating for working Texans. As Agriculture Commissioner, I'll fight to make food and farming affordable, protect our natural resources, and make sure the people who feed Texas have someone fighting for them.

Top priorities

  1. Bust the food monopolies that squeeze family farmers while price-gouging working families. I’ll fight corporate concentration, strengthen local food systems, and make sure farmers receive a fair price while Texans pay a fair price at the grocery store.
  2. Protect Texas water, farmland, and family farms from corporate interests that put short-term profits ahead of our future. Texas agriculture cannot survive without affordable water, healthy land, and a new generation of family farmers.
  3. Stop irresponsible AI data centers from draining our water, driving up electricity costs, and consuming prime farmland. Texas should embrace new technology responsibly without forcing farmers, ranchers, and working families to subsidize Big Tech.
