Background

I have served on the Texas Supreme Court since 2018 and as Chief Justice since 2025. During my time on the Court, I have authored more than 100 opinions involving a broad range of issues under Texas law. Before joining the Court, I handled dozens of appeals in state and federal court during my time in private practice and state government, and I worked on trial court litigation. I earned my B.A. in Plan II Honors from The University of Texas at Austin and my J.D. from Yale Law School. As Chief Justice, I lead the Court’s administrative responsibilities and work with judges, lawyers, and legislators on issues affecting the judiciary statewide. I also serve as Chair of the Texas Judicial Council and as an elder at Tarrytown Christian Church.

Why I am running

I am running to continue providing steady and experienced leadership for the Texas judiciary. My priorities as Chief Justice are to preserve the independence and integrity of our courts while promoting greater efficiency, reducing costs for litigants, and making justice more accessible to every Texan. Above all, I want the judiciary to earn and maintain the public’s confidence by providing fair and efficient courts and faithfully applying the law.

How I would approach this job

I would approach the job by faithfully applying statutes as written, following the text and original meaning of the Constitution, and deciding every case fairly and impartially according to the law and the facts. As Chief Justice, I would continue working to preserve the independence and integrity of the Texas judiciary while promoting efficiency and reducing costs for litigants. The Court should seek to promote clarity in the law and efficiency in procedure so that people and businesses have the certainty and predictability they need to order their affairs and settle disputes outside of court. Access to justice would remain a priority, along with making the court system easier to navigate and maintaining public confidence in fair and efficient courts.
